Want Your Pooch at the Wedding? Here's How!
Love is Fur-Ever!
It’s no secret that we love dogs here at Wedding Warriors – heck, giving back to dogs in need is even written into our business plan (find out more about that HERE!) … So, it was really only a matter of time before we got to writing about dogs and weddings (and how well they go together, oh yeah!).
However, as cute as the idea of having your four legged friend at your wedding might be, there are a few important things to consider if you plan on having them with you on the day.
Are they cut out for a party?
First and foremost, it’s about considering your dog and his/her personality. Will they thrive on the fun and the fuss, or will it turn them into a ball of nerves? As much as you love them and want them there for this important time, if it’s not necessarily something they’re going to love, they might be best off hanging with a relative or friend for the celebrations.
If their stress levels are a concern, why not build in time to go visit them and have pictures taken with them at a quiet point in the day where you can sneak off for a while. That way you get gorgeous pics without the doggy-anxiety.
If you know s/he is a sociable type and will dig the attention, then it’s all A-ok and you’re good to go!
Is the venue okay with doggle being there?
Not all venues are dog friendly (pffft!), so just double check beforehand.
Get a trusted friend/relative to be ‘primary carer’
Whether doggy is coming for a little while or the whole day, entrust his/her care to someone you (and they) know and trust. Trips outside for a wee, plenty of opportunities to have a drink of water and protection from over-grabby kids are all things to watch out for and make sure doglet has a great time. Get someone in charge of dealing with all of that so that you don’t have to worry on the day.
PS - There are some amazing humans in Perth, who specialise in Pet Attendant Services, like this biz: Barks in the Park.
Capture cute photographs.
If your best four-legged-friend is there for W-Day, make sure your photographer is briefed on grabbing some cute shots.
Plan for eating time!
Does your dog lay quietly in her bed while you eat, or is he more of a ‘paws on the table and beg’ kinda type? Consider beforehand how you’ll manage dining time – and of course if your wedding clashes with doggy mealtimes, plan for their food to be available (and the designated primary carer to feed as needed).
We totally get how important this furry four-legged family members are. Give them all the love and embrace having them there to enjoy your special day.
